New Washington Law Adopts More Reasonable Definition of an Auto Accident

Comments Off

On June 7, a new law in Washington will become effective which will redefine an “accident” to be an “event that was not intended or foreseen by a person who was injured during the event.” The movement to change the definition arose from an accident where a driver intentionally rammed into another car because of a domestic violence dispute. That car then collided into Ethel Adams. Adams’ insurance company denied her an immediate settlement because the initial collision that caused her injuries was an intentional act – and not an accident.

This new law will effectively restrict insurance companies from denying coverage when there is an intentional act. For more information, please see: New Law Defines Auto Accident.
