Pedestrian Killed by School Bus; School District Settles for $1.5 Million

Comments Off

In 2003, a 13-year-old was walking to school when he was struck and killed by a Clover Park school bus. In the vehicular homicide trial against the bus driver, prosecuters alleged the driver was under the influence of morphine and other prescription medicines. A jury acquitted the driver of the charges. However, in a civil suit against the Clover Park School District, the School District settled the claim for $1.5 million. In addition, the lawyers for the victim’s family have indicated that the civil suit has led to closer monitoring of the use of prescription drugs by school bus drivers.

Personal injury attorneys should be consulted right away when someone is injured or killed. The attorneys can discuss the victims’ options and preserve their rights.
