Van Filled With Soldiers Hits Car, Kills Passenger

Comments Off

On Wednesday, December 21, 2005 a minivan filled with seven soldiers en route to Sea-Tac Airport hit a car on Interstate 5, killing 23-year old Nichole Cook. Ms. Cook was in the car’s front passenger seat. The driver of the car had drifted from the HOV lane into the guardrail, causing the vehicle to spin in the middle of the freeway.

The driver of the car and two other passengers-including Ms. Cook’s 10-month old daughter, Brielle-survived the collision. All three were taken to Harborview Medical Center and were listed in satisfactory condition after the accident.

The soldiers were California National Guard members who were traveling home for the holidays before being deployed to Iraq. Among the seven, the most significant injuries were a broken collarbone and head lacerations. All of the soldiers received treatment at Madigan Airport Base.
