Seattle remains an important port on the West Coast. The maritime industries are a signficiant part of our economy and heritgage. As a result, Seattle is also a key jurisdiction for the resolution of maritime cliams.
Martime claims come in a variety of forms. They can involve fisherman and crew members on container ships. Maritime claims also exist where persons–not typically thought of as seamen–are injured.
Unfortunately a naval architect from Seattle recently fell to his death on a the Cougar Ace. The Coast Guard reported he was part of a salvage team working on the Cougar Ace which had been drifting more than a week near the Aleutian Islands after tipping on its side.
Newspaper stories indicate the ship is loaded with nearly 5,000 cars headed for Vancouver and Tacoma.
