The Virginia Supreme Court upheld and $8.3M skiing accident award by refusing to hear an appeal from the resort found negligent.

Jessica Grigg collided with a snow grooming machine at Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County, VA. The accident occurred in January 2003 when Jessica was 17. She suffered permanent severe brain damage in the accident.
A skiing accident lawyer represented Grigg in the suit, which resulted in the largest ski accident verdict in history. The attorney representing Wintergreen argued that the resort was not negligent because skiers had been warned about the grooming machines.

The Charlottesville Daily Progress provides more details.
