On Sunday, November 20, 2005 A Union Pacific freight train traveling from Portland to Seattle struck and killed two young men who were walking near the tracks. The accident occurred between Tacoma and Steilacoom on the BNSF Railroad’s double main line. Railroad authorities and police continue to investigate. The names of the deceased victims have not been released.

Railroads generally owe a duty to ensure minimum visibility at crossings and remove conditions that create crossing hazards. If the railroad breached its duty in this case the estates of the two young men may have legal claims for their deaths.
