A 22-year-old Everett man is in custody after his Ford pickup truck lost its load, killing one person and injuring several others northbound on Interstate 5. The fatal five-vehicle collision occurred when a metal shelving unit fell out of the truck bed.

As mentioned in prior blog entries, Washington has strict laws about securing loads. There are heavy fines and expansive civil liability for violators. In this case, the injured motorists may bring personal injury claims. The estate of the person killed may bring a wrongful death claim.
