A team studying what to do about safety and traffic on Highway 2 hopes to get some ideas from the public at the Evergreen State Fair. The idea is to get information beyond what statistics can provide. The Washington State Department of Transportation is studying the section of road between Snohomish and Skykomish, locally known as the “highway of death.” Between 1994 and 2005 there were 2,554 accidents on that section of the highway, including nearly 30 fatalities, according to the state Department of Transportation. Most recently, two people died in a head-on collision Aug. 14 near Skykomish.
