Two pedestrians suffered personal injuries when they were struck by a pickup truck in an accident along Alaskan Way on Seattle’s Downtown Waterfront on Friday.

A pickup truck struck two people walking across Alaskan Way on Seattle’s waterfront Friday, police said. The two were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

A witness told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the two — a man and a woman — were crossing in the 2000 block of Alaska Way in a crosswalk when they were hit.

Police said the driver of the pickup was cited.

Washington law contains special provisions giving pedestrians the right-of-way in exactly these types of situations. Pedestrians involved in accidents like this one can also collect Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) benefits under the driver’s insurance policy. It is important to consult an attorney soon after an accident to protect valuable legal rights.
