The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit reported an increase in serious car and motorcycle accidents in 2005. The accident investigation unit consists of one sergeant and eight detectives. The officers investigate accidents involving fatalities and serious injuries.
In total, the accident investigation unit was called to 360 accidents last year, over 100 more than in 2004. Officers noted an increase in fatalities and serious injuries which mirrored this general trend. According to Sergeant Rusty Johnson, the number one cause of serious accidents in Snohomish County was speed.
