Three young people were injured in a car accident Wednesday night when the stolen car they were riding in crashed into a utility pole. They had previously been stopped by the police but took off as officers approached the car on foot.

Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Department said the three injured young people — the driver and two passengers — were taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

Jamieson said the accident occurred after the car had been stopped by Seattle police while it was southbound on Interstate 5. Jamieson says officers were on the lookout for the car, which had been stolen in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

The wreck trapped the driver in the car, and he was forced to be freed by the authorities. All passengers fled the scene but were later apprehended.
