Construction workers in Federal Way were using a forklift to set a wooden wall into its foundation Friday morning when a cable snapped, dropping the wall onto two workers, killing one and injuring the other.
A 41-year-old Renton man broke his leg and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, Hwang said. The other workers were able to scramble out of the way.
The Department of Labor and Industries provides benefits to injured workers. However, these benefits are frequently insufficient. While suit may not be maintained against an employer (absent intentional injury), construction workers employed by one subcontractor may bring cliams against other subcontractors or the general contractor.
The Kent man, who has not been identified by the King County medical examiner, worked for D & K Crane, a subcontractor working for the building’s Everett-based general contractor, Kirtley Cole Associates, Hwang said.
